The Hidden Force Behind Oregon’s Wild Coastline
I often talk about the incredible abundance of life along Oregon’s coast from the massive clusters of mussels clinging to the rocks in tide-pools to the dense clouds of seabirds feeding just offshore. If the size of the shellfish and the richness of our tide-pools don’t give away our how nutrient rich our coastline is, maybe the whales and pelicans returning each spring will! The Oregon Coast is one of the most fertile marine regions in the entire world. And we have a very powerful natural process to thank for it, upwelling!
