Whether looking for a fun activity for yourself when on the coast, a plan for a friend's birthday, a wedding group experience, or a bonding opportunity for your team - I’d love to offer you a private foraging or exploration workshop. Nothing seems to bring people together quite like food, and the great outdoors!

Fall/Winter Update: Please note that fall and winter are relatively tricky for intertidal exploration, with rough unpredictable ocean conditions and tides that fall in the darkest hours, spring and summer is really the best time for these! Crabbing and Seaweed Cyanotypes are both more realistic year round options.

If interested in a private coastal workshop please keep in mind that schedules are dependent on the tide. Therefore times on a certain date will have to be pretty specific, but I’ll guide you through this! Here is a rough calendar of open low tide days for private workshops.   • Tidepooling

    This workshop will immerse students in the rocky intertidal ecosystems of the Oregon Coast. We will discuss tides, ocean conditions, and safety and etiquette on the rocks. Dive into details on specific organisms and species interactions that make up the general ecology of our intertidal ecosystems. Spend time exploring the nooks and crannies of the rocky shores looking for critters of all sizes.

  • Mussel Foraging

    Come foraging for mussels! This workshop will introduce students to the diverse and abundant rocky intertidal ecosystems of the Oregon Coast. We will discuss tides, ocean conditions, as well as safety and etiquette on the rocks. There will be a focus on foraging mussels and other edibles including barnacles, and seaweed (seaweed is dependent on the season, ONLY March-June 15).

  • Bay Clamming

    Gather in Garibaldi to learn about the ecology and oceanography of the Tillamook Bay. We will discuss the conditions that allow multiple clam species to inhabit the bay as well as conditions that allow us to forage. Learn sustainable and proper harvest techniques, preparation and storage of raking for cockle clams.

  • Seaweed ID

    Oregon’s rocky shores are covered in a diverse array of seaweeds. Look into the intricate and distinctive patterns that make up each group. Learn how seaweed is classified as well as how to identify a few local species. Compare sea vegetables with tastings on the beach.

  • Crabbing

    Spend a day along the shores of the Tillamook Bay. Oregon is home to one of the most beloved shellfish worldwide, the Dungeness Crab! Join to learn the ins and outs of crabbing while hearing about the crabbing industry as a whole and how it shapes Oregon's coastal economy. You will learn about different crabbing techniques as well as how to identify different crabs species and legal size and sex limits.

  • Razor Clamming

    This workshop includes Razor Clamming in Oregon. Students will be introduced to intertidal ecosystems of the Oregon Coast. We will discuss tides, ocean conditions, and safety. Learn how to identify clam holes and how to properly dig for eazors.
