Seaweed aquaculture in the United States is rapidly expanding, due to its potential to address environmental challenges and support sustainable food supply. States like Maine, Alaska, and California are at the forefront of kelp focused seaweed farming, growing species like sugar kelp, bull kelp, alaria, and more. Oregon has navigated challenging regulations by focusing on land-based aquaculture, specifically growing dulse seaweed.
Pacific Dulse is a regenerative, nutrient-rich crop native to Oregon. Oregon Seaweed is growing dulse in tanks on land in Garibaldi, OR. Come learn about the industry of seaweed farming, and the environmental benefits, with Alanna who has been farming seaweed for 3+ years. Alanna has also co-founded Winter Waters, a month-long (February) local seafare culinary series with a focus to uplift seaweed as a culinary ingredient in Oregon and beyond.
