Razor Clamming in Seaside, Oregon
Razor clams are arguable one of Oregon’s most iconic shellfish. With 90% of Oregon’s razor clams being found on Clatsop County beaches, there’s no better place to learn than the north coast!
This workshop will introduce students to intertidal ecosystems of the Oregon Coast, and what lies right below the surface on seemingly big open empty beaches. We will discuss tides, ocean conditions, safety, and sustainability. We’ll each be digging razor clams on the beach front in Seaside, OR. Students will learn about the different environments of various clam species as well as the clamming industry along the Oregon Coast.
Students must each dig their own clams and follow all regulations in place by ODFW. These regulations will be taught. Purging, processing, and cooking techniques will also be shared!

This workshop will be held near Seaside, Oregon. An exact meeting location will be sent upon booking.

Foraging requires some significant walking, in the case of razor clams, on sandy open beaches. Please wear appropriate footgear (e.g. tennis shoes, rainboots, or other hiking footwear). Whatever you don't mind getting wet that will also keep your feet stable.
For your own safety and comfort, do not wear flipflops or sandals. Do keep in mind your feet are likely to be in the water at some point, so rainboots are what I would strongly recommend.

Every person will need a shellfish license, obtained through Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife HERE.

Cancellations made prior to 10 days from the time of the event will get a full refund (minus processing fees) or be rescheduled. Within 10 days of the workshop time, I will do my best to schedule someone but if I cannot fill the spot, no refund will be available.

The coast is often unpredictable. Events will happen rain or shine. Please be prepared for any and all types of weather. If ocean conditions are unsafe on the day of the event, we will do what we can to educate and have a full lesson while keeping everyone safe.
